The Touch of Wood was founded in 1975 under the name of Higham-Benson Mfg. as a manufacturer of custom built solid wood furniture. Higham-Benson focused primarily on selling their products at a wholesale level to other retailers.

In 1978 the operation shifted to retail oriented business and the name was changed to The Touch of Wood. Since that time The Touch of Wood has expanded to include other products from different manufacturers for almost any room in the home as well as custom made and custom finished furniture.
